Jessica Böhme: The Phenomena of Emergence / CoCreationLoft

‘Emergence’ means something new arises that wasn’t here before. We all have that sense intuitively, but scientifically, how does that happen? How do you bring parts together and all of a sudden the whole has some properties that none of the parts had? Jessica, who researches at the IASS Potsdam about the connection of personal development and sustainability, will introduce the phenomena of emergence, drawing on systems science and complexity theory. She will also give a practical example of the CoCreation Loft, where this is being put into practice.

Magdalena Dabkowska: Promoting Personal Sustainability Through University Teaching

“Personal sustainability” starts with a specific mindset and outlook on life. Without this awareness of one’s identity, purpose and relationship with the outside world and other people, it is impossible to advocate for change. An increasing number of people have a higher education degree, but educational offer tends to focus on training for jobs, rather than teaching how to think critically and challenge. I am a lecturer at the Berlin School of Economics and Law where I invite students to consider moral economy and social justice questions to give them the knowledge necessary to promote change and add real value to wherever they may end up doing professionally.

Karen Wohlert: Emergence of, in & around Baumhaus

Baumhaus co-founder Karen shares some stories…

Zinnia Nomura: Mami Wata: the 20m floating body-mind-laboratory

We are the Tentakelbewegung, a group of creatives from diverse sociocultural, artistic and political backgrounds. Our goal is Mami Wata: the floating body-mind-laboratory. Mami Wata will be a 20-meter-long catamaran which functions as a rehearsal and project space, workshop and meeting place. We want to be a positive example and organize the building process as a participative, environmentally friendly experience. The boat combines three aspects that give us the greatest possible freedom and flexibility: MOBILITY The boat is mobile INDEPENDENCE The boat is unaffected by gentrification TRANSFORMATION The boat has a closed space which can be used for various activities year-round, as well as a rooftop stage WHAT WILL HAPPEN? Workshops, seminars, courses, repair space, concerts, theater and dance performances
