Maia Frazier: Back to the Roots – BTTR STORIES

Back to the Roots – BTTR STORIES is a Berlin-based online magazine. PLACES are opening up new realms for action, creativity, education and exchange. Zoom in on projects that are making a positive contribution to our global community. PEOPLE are doing inspiring and exciting things. Get up close and personal with individuals who are turning ideas into reality. BTTR is where their STORIES are told. The world really is a bit of an oyster.

BTTR STORIES was founded as a personal project by freelance sustainability writer Maia Frazier. Her presentation will be held in English.

SuperCoop Berlin

The story began when Robin, who was a member of the first cooperative supermarket in Europe – the Parisian La Louve Coopérative, moved to Berlin and couldn’t find a similar supermarket where he could find everything he needed, consume in a sustainable way while being part of a community sharing his values, and still be able to afford the bill!

Why not offer such a place to Berliners too? After all, everyone deserves to eat better at fair prices, while respecting our farmers and environment! Lots of Berliners quickly became enthusiastic about the idea to open their own supermarket and decided to join and support the project.

Oliver Juan: The “I-opener” project

This video project intends to inspire people to have a reflexive view on their behaviour, stands and habits towards our common environmental urgency. By understanding that it is not the (physical) Planet who is in danger but rather the capability of future generations to prosper, the individual finds himself faced with the consequence of his actions through
the experience of empathy. The flawed continuity throughout generations is not a new concept in our history, but the stakes for what we are bequeathing has never been so high. It was inspired by the art project called „win > <win“created by the team behind the Rimini Protokoll (Helgard Kim Haug, Stefan Kaegi, Daniel Wetzel).

Scott Bolden: Baumhaus P.E.A.C.E.S.

P.E.A.C.E.S. is a practical framework for understanding how to identify create and maintain dynamic balance across 6 dimensions of sustainability. What does it mean to live a sustainable life while contributing to creating a sustainable society and world?  What are some practical and effective ways in our daily life to achieve these objectives in the short and long term?  PEACES is an acronym describing six integrated areas of sustainability (Personal, Ecologic, Aesthetic, Cultural, Economic & Social) where we as individuals as well as organizations can have direct and positive impact on ourselves each other and the world right now.  During this short talk, Scott will explain the framework and give some practical examples of how the framework applies to what happens in the Baumhaus.

19:00 Intuitive Painting Workshop

> Duration: 120 min.
> Workshop participation fee (incl. only material costs, doesn’t incl. festival entrance fee): 15 EUR – 20 EUR (sliding scale)
> Registration and information:
intuitivepaintingclasses@gmail.com (registration is not required, but appreciated)

Intuitive painting is a creative process that combines intuition, playful exploration and freedom of expression. I invite everyone to engage in art-making free from: Perfectionism –  by silencing our inner critic. Comparison – by accepting the uniqueness of each human being. Constant need for external approval – by looking inward to find self-worth

This class is not about creating a perfect painting. It is about the process of exploring the unknown, accepting imperfections and letting go of fear and shame. True creativity is born when we face the blank canvas without any expectations, or specific goals and allow the painting to unfold organically.

Participants have the chance to work on any subject, emotion or thought they wish to explore. However, a general theme is always provided. A short guided meditation opens the practice and helps to relax the mind and the body. The classes include an introduction to the acrylic painting technique as well as some guidance through the creative process.

Here are some tips to make your participation an amazing experience:
– Wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on (Although I will provide aprons, I suggest wearing old clothes)
– Please arrive 10 minutes before the class to give yourself time to get settled

Everyone is welcome, and no experience in painting or meditation is required.  All materials will be provided.
Looking forward to seeing you! Polina
